Hoppin John

John and Ellen, it was great meeting you the other day.  The only butterflies I found in Manatee Park were painted on the sidewalks.  I had success today chasing one for a about a mile.
I visited Caloosahatchee Regional Park in Alva Florida today to do some hiking.  It is a beautiful little park with some great trails.  I spent the entire afternoon wandering and just enjoying being outside.

On our way back from the park we decided to treat ourselves to some BBQ.  On the menu was “Hoppin John.” I have black eye peas and ham in the van.  Tomorrow I will be making a run on the grocery store for some rice.  I found a recipe on the net that sounds good and we shall see if it is any good tomorrow night.  Hoppin John is a southern dish.  Raymond Sokolov states in his book "How to Cook", that Hoppin' John is named after a crippled African American who sold it on the streets of Charleston, South Carolina as far back as 1841.  It is some eatin.
