I have been warned, repeatedly, about rattlesnakes, blue belly lizards, and tarantulas. Truthfully I am not afraid of them. I have the highest regard for them and I am aware of the dangers of at least one of the above. That is why I am not afraid of them.
What scares me is the javelina.
I don't know what Javelina are. Some say it is a large rodent, some say pig, and I say "anything that will chase someone and can be aggressive needs to be given a lot of space." It is the unknown factor that scares me. Why you ask? This is what we came upon last night.
I was in the courtyard taking these pictures. No way in heck I was coming out of the safety of the courtyard to get a better picture.

No guts, no glory!!! I don't blame you a bit. I hear those things can be n.a.s.t.y!! But I must also say I will cut a wide path around snakes and scorpions, too. Not afraid, but I won't push my luck, either!!
So, what you had was a herd of Ugly......
OMG, scary.
Are these those pig like creatures that stink to high heaven? Ugly buggers.
I'm sure I have told you this before...I grew up in Montana where there were/are rattle snakes everywhere and a lot of other very scary animals. I was taught to stay as far away as possible and not to make sudden moves.
I sometimes think my step-dad was trying to find a legal way to have us kids killed off. He was a monster and a very wierd man in many ways. He was also a hotdog and a daredevil and thought we kids should be that way too.
Pulling us behind his car with ropes to hang onto and ski's fastened to our feet just wasn't enough.
Yet here I sit with a rattler tattooed on my left hand. A reminder, I suppose that snakes lurk everywhere and like me they shed their skin. But I can be trusted not to strike...they can't.
Be careful my friend. Maybe you need to get a tattoo too. Yep...this old gal has been inked.

Okay, when I come to visit and we are sitting in the courtyard, we will be wearing our heat-seeking goggles at night, right? Geez, how scarey are THEY? I've read way too many Stephen King novels. Did you ever see the movie "Hannibal"?
