We Made It To Texas

We are in Hill Country! Actually we spent the night in Wichita Falls Texas last night. We are happy little campers.

About the dumped puppy. She has a forever home and I hope her previous owners don't ever come back because she will recognize them.

Today we pulled over at a roadside park to eat lunch and another van dweller dropped by to say hi. I love van people - they are the friendliest folks. When we were in the motorhome this never happened.

When we pulled into the RV Park I was met by the friendliest lady and she was so excited because she had the perfect spot for us.... When I hear that I immediately flashback to 50 feet of hose and an extension cord. She did have the perfect spot for us. Right by the showers and laundry. It is a super small spot that could be a pull through if our neighbors didn't have two cars. It is shaded and private. We are going to stay a few days and explore. Expect pictures tomorrow.

This is the sixth dream - the nightmare.

That is the love of a dog.

Well we made it to Oklahoma!  We drove from El Dorado Kansas to Enid Oklahoma via back roads.  It was a wonderful drive.  We would have made it further down the road but we stopped in Newkirk Oklahoma for a couple of hours.  We decided to throw away $40 and for once it took a while to get rid of it.

We stayed at Deer Grove RV Park while in El Dorado.   The reviews on it is average.  It is just a huge graveled parking lot but it had WI FI that worked as well as cable.   Add that to friendly happy people and a reasonable price…. well I will definitely be back if I am passing through.

At the park office in El Dorado they had a dog.  A sweet little mutt that was a great greeter.  One of their overnight guest decided they didn’t want her anymore and instead of finding an animal shelter they dumped her.  The owner of the park fed her, thinking maybe they will come back but they never did.  They do not know who dumped her.  So she stayed.  Every time a motorhome pulls up to register she goes on high alert, not a fifth wheel or travel trailer but a motorhome.  She still waits, she still has hope….  That is the love of a dog.

The Fifth Dream – The Pink Houseboat

Oatmeal, Applesauce, Tea….. Sigh

We decided to spend another day in El Dorado Kansas since the weather person was predicting high winds.  Truthfully I could have driven into Oklahoma and avoided the wind all together but that is not what I am all about.  I am going to drive the back roads, see the little towns, stop at the cemeteries and visit the main drags.  Even though I could have driven my little house on wheels in this type of weather…. why should I?  I had a good book and cable tv.  So I just rolled over and slept till 8:30.

momandi[1] The day was spent running errands - filling the van with gas, Wal-Marts, haircuts, and eating the best darn BBQ in the world.  I have never eaten this good in a long, long time.  If you are ever in El Dorado Kansas please stop by Oklahoma Boys BBQ on Main Street.  It is worth driving out of your way for it.

While getting my hair cut I found myself in conversation with a gentleman who has dreams of travel when his children leave home.  What was interesting is he has traveled to Honduras as well and we talked about Roatan and Copan, as well as El Ceibal, which isn’t in Honduras.  We discussed Arizona and California.  I encouraged his desire to own van, which I am sure his wife will love me for that.  The conversation was so wonderful that I forgot all about what the hairdresser was doing.  The last haircut I received I walked out looking like a 51-year old Justin Bieber…. which was very interesting to say the least.  Well Folks, I walked out with a spiked haircut, like I asked for.  The lady was so interested in our conversation she forgot to charge me for mom’s haircut.  I did pay for it.

The picture in this blog is a caricature of my daughter and myself.  Yeah it is not exactly flattering but I hate any picture of me.  So what the heck I will post it.

This evening I decided to create a few CDs for driving music and get my mail caught up.  Tomorrow night will be a parking lot night and I don’t know if I will get online or not.  I also am trying a new torture for me.  No eating after 6 p.m.  It is rough.  I am one of those that eat a lot before bedtime and that is not good.  So I dream of breakfast now.  Oatmeal, Applesauce, Tea…..  Sigh

Explanation

7 Dreams by Gordon Jenkins was a LP released in 1954. It is a musical fantasy set to a full orchestra. To put it simply it tells the story of 7 Dreams the narrator has. Thanks to Johnny Cash and Frank Sinatra the two dreams, “The Conductor” and “The Girl on the Rock”, will sound familiar. My ex husband owned the album and the family enjoyed it immensely especially the 6th dream, “The Nightmare.” The kids definitely had that one memorized.  "One for the Monster, Two for the Shroud, Three to get Rendered, and 4 to……… Wake up brush your teeth, wash your face, comb your hair…..” When we divorced he kept the album. As silly as it sounds it is a part of my children’s childhood and it brings back warm memories for me as well. For a long time it was not available on CD and I believe you can purchase it from I-Tunes. I found the LP online and purchased it and had it put on a CD. My daughter will keep the LP since my son; Scott purchased an LP of 7 Dreams without telling me.

The visit to the dentist went well and mom doesn’t have to replace her vintage cap. We will be on the road Sunday heading south to parts unknown.

…I didn’t get paid either

We drove to my daughter’s house this afternoon.  We are going to take care of some dental problems, an oil change before we take off to warmer places.

Her wonderful boyfriend had my CD ready and I am so excited.  I know the best way to listen to 7 Dreams is one dream at a time.  Mom made it through to the 3rd dream before she went to bed.  We will listen to it in it’s entirety when we are cruising down the road. I am going to add a dream a day to my blog for the next 7 days.  Share the joy of Gordon Jenkins with others.

Tomorrow the dentist, Friday the oil change, Saturday fun and games….. Maybe we will be on the road by Sunday.

Like I have said earlier my memories are coming back, most of them return like an old friend.  Today Hannah took us to a wonderful Greek Restaurant for lunch.  The three of us were enjoying a great meal and conversation when a memory came back to me like an old friend.  Of course I shared it like I am going to now.  Remembering is very exciting for me.  I was 14 years old and a lady of Polish descent owned a restaurant not far from where I lived.   She offered to train me to be a waitress and I jumped at the opportunity.  The first day of employment I jumped into my little boat (in those days I traveled by boat.) and arrived at the restaurant.  I was super excited.  I found out real fast her method of training was not in any training manual.  Every time I would make a mistake she would cuss me out in Polish and a couple times she would chucked a pork chop at me.  I didn’t last long at that job.  Truth be told I should have collected the pork chops and taken them home with me because I didn’t get paid either.

The First Dream - The Professor
