More In Re Hannah's Visit

The last full day of Hannah and Robert's visit was spent in Sabino Canyon.  We decided to do a "gravity hike."  We took the shuttle to the last stop and then we thought we would hike down.  Foolish, foolish me.    When we did get to the hiking down part it was downhill on the way.    It was a fun time.

Me - I died

That was our trail

Fortunately at the end of the trail there was a place to cool off.

In beauty may I walk.
All day long may I walk.
Through the returning seasons may I walk.
Beautifully will I possess again.
Beautifully birds . . .
Beautifully joyful birds
On the trail marked with pollen may I walk.
With grasshoppers about my feet may I walk.
With dew about my feet may I walk.
With beauty may I walk.
With beauty before me, may I walk.
With beauty behind me, may I walk.
With beauty above me, may I walk.
With beauty below me, may I walk.
With beauty all around me, may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, lively, may I walk.
In old age wandering on a trail of beauty, living again, may I walk.
It is finished in beauty.
It is finished in beauty.

Hannah and Robert flew home Wednesday early afternoon after a wonderful visit.

On that same day I was feeling a little puny. By three o clock I knew without a doubt what it was - an UTI. Thirty years ago I had one and it left a definite impression with me. I got the impression from the nurse practioner that this happens frequently, so I am counting my blessing that I do not have this affliction as often as other women. In fact once every thirty years is perfectly fine with me.

I managed to devour three books this week. Two of the books, Roxanna Slade and Kate Vaiden, were written by Reynolds Price, a wonderful author. Both were in a Southern setting so it made you long for a porch, a swing, and glasses of sweet tea. I thoroughly enjoyed them. Hannah loves to go to Bookmans and it was there that I picked up two books by Gregory Maguire. Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and Mirror Mirror. I finished Mirror Mirror today. I love Gregory Macguire imagination and how he retells the classics.

Beep Beep Beep

Early, early and I will emphasize it again EARLY morning I awoke from a deep sleep to a beep.  One of those irritating, demanding beeps.  I would hear one beep and 2 minutes later another.  I was so tired that I couldn't figure out where it was coming from. It took a good 8 beeps for me to clear the fuzz from my brain and located the source.  It was the carbon monoxide detector.  I reached up and twisted it to remove it from the ceiling.  It would not budge but the beeping starting happening faster and with more intenisity.  I tried twisting it in the other direction and it wouldn't budge.  By now I am wide awake.  I tried twisting it in the other direction and it broke.

CRAP  another job for the "to do" list.

That is when I discovered why it was beeping.  I needed to change the battery; well now I need to change the darn detector.  Was I able to go back to sleep?  You Betcha!

More of the Same

Maynards  May 19th

 Hannah's salad

Maynard is located by the railroad tracks but it wasn't a noise issue.

 A Wall of Beer!
On the 19th we ate a wonderful lunch at Maynards located in downtown Tucson.  Marvelous food!  It also had a market where you can purchased groceries.

On the way home we passed a street named "Roller Coaster."    It was just to delicious of a name to ignore and down Roller Coaster Road we went.  It didn't disappoint.

Randomness
Saw this thought of Hannah and Robert.  Since I didn't have $425 to purchase it I took a picture.
 May 20th
Hannah and I went to 4th Street to do some serious window shopping!  The following pictures are just random pictures.

I was sitting at a table and I heard, "Don't take your guns to town son, Leave your guns at home Bill, Don't take your guns to town."  I really enjoyed listening to the above street performer and left him a good tip.

I was a believer that having a facial was a waste of hard earn money.   I could see no sense in it.  You can imagine my surprise when my son, Scott gave Hannah, mom, and myself a facial for Mother's Day.  I put a smile on and said "Thank You" as convincing as I could.   I never had one and never wanted one.....

May 20th was facial day.  I went into a little room and after removing my shoes and socks I wrapped myself up in a towel and I laid down on a little bed, something similar to a gurney.  About ten minutes into the facial, I was saying prayers.  "Dear Lord, please keep me from snoring."

I will admit I snore, sometimes so loud I wake myself up.

About thirty minutes into this facial I was trying to think of ways I could sneak back to Tucson to get another one.  Then I was given a shoulder massage, arm and hand massage and by the time she got to my feet I was putty.  I was so relaxed I didn't care if I snorted.   I have never had anything so relaxing in my life.  In fact I think this is the most relaxed I have been in 50 years!!!!!  It was better than chocolate.  Better than sex.  Better than cheesecake!

Saw this and had to have it for the house.
TODAY
On the way to our destination we came upon a vulture in the middle of his feast.  Of course I had to stop the car and jump out.  What I think is interesting is the vulture will eat until it is to full to fly.  If it feels threatened it will vomit to rid itself of the excess weight.  Fortunately that didn't happen.

 Bernie tried driving.

Today we went to Iris O. Dewhirst Pima Canyon Trailhead located at the east end of Magee Road in Tucson.  It is a beautiful hike.  The following are a few of the pictures I took.

We also hung up our decorations on the house today.

More Odd Than Ends

MY KIDS

THE BLANKET
Christmas 2007 Hannah gave me a frog blanket for Christmas.  For reasons beyond me, Surely Not, my geriatric puppy copped onto it.  She adored my frog blanket.  The last two months of her life I would put her blanket in her kennel.  By that time she was having accidents and so the blanket was being washed to death.  I made sure she had it.  Then one day she pooped all over it and I had to throw it away.  I told Hannah to please buy another one for her but Hannah was unable to locate one.  A couple months ago she was at friend's house and Hannah's friend had a frog blanket identical to Surely's.  That was one of my mother's day present.

ON DYING
Right outside my courtyard is an ancient fish hook cactus.  The other day Scott noticed it was leaking copious amounts of water.  It was like it was bleeding.  It appears it is slowly dying like the agave that is in front of the house.  The agave will produce a  stalk, sometimes 40 feet tall, it will bloom then the plant dies.

I AM NOT LOST....  YES I AM
Yesterday, late afternoon Hannah and I decided to take advantage of the remaining daylight hours and go for a walk around the neighborhood.
BIG MISTAKE
We got lost in a massive subdivision.  We were deep in conversation that we kind of lost track of time. Then I noticed it was getting dark and then I noticed we were lost in a sea of adobe.  All those darn houses look the same.  It was rather unnerving.  I asked Hannah if she knew where we were and, so we kept walking until we found a busier street.  That street led us to the main road.  It was about 2 1/2 hours before we found our way out of there.

NATURE

I WOULD LOVE TO BE LOVED LIKE THAT

Whenever Scott leaves the house Bernie jumps up on the couch and just stares at him.  Old Bernie just adores Scott.

OH STEER PIZZLE or DID YOU HONESTLY READ WHAT THE INGREDIENT IS IN YOUR DOG'S SNACK........
It is just a polite way of saying Bull Penis.  This was purchased at Trader Joes.  Since this is a G rated blog I didn't take a picture of the snack...... Just joking.

What Dogs See

I am now a happy person that shares her home with two dogs. Miss Sophie has moved in with us full time. She is a Miniature Pinscher, 6 years...
