So I turned to the clerk and said “She needs a bicycle lock. Then I tried to get her to check me out but she hollered “Carlos!” So out comes Carlos and I explained what the lady needed. Carlos could only speak limited English so after some great hand gestures (none of which were obscene) I finally got him to understand. Then I tried to buy my water again but the clerk smiled and said, “Free, Have a nice day.”
We drove over 42 bridges according to the lady in the visitor center to reach Key West. Then a tour guide said there was 43 bridges. So I can safely say we drove over a lot of bridges to get to Key West. The longest bridge is called the 7 mile bridge and is 6.8 miles long, it crosses Moser Channel. It connects Knight’s Key in the Middle Keys to Little Duck Key in the Lower Keys. Make your head spin doesn’t it?
Our first day in Key West was spent walking the popular Duval Street and visiting the southernmost corner of the United States. The southernmost corner of the United States is 90 miles from Cuba. Truthfully Florida’s official southernmost point is Ballast Key, a privately owned island just south and west of Key West.
Key West is a lovely little Island with a major parking problem. I had to drop mom off at the southernmost point and drive around the block a couple of times so she could get a picture. Then we found parking on Duval Street at the cost of 25 cents for every ten minutes. Needless to say we didn’t park long. Then we drove by the cemetery. It was quite the experience. The roads were to narrow and there was no parking for the cemetery. We did find cheaper parking and was able to explore Duval Street longer. It was so much fun.
Enjoy the random pictures I took of Day One at Key West.

I think Key West is fascinating.
I really enjoyed the tour or Ernest Hemmingway's house while there. The sunset and all the interesting characters, fresh seafood etc.... fun.... but was so many years ago.

All you would've needed is some ferhoodled English (PA Dutch) to make it all the more confusing. Kannst du Mica funna? Wenn de hocka bleiw!.

Ah, Key West, where Suzy got screamed at by a parrot ... sitting on her shoulder! We were there in the 80's, I think it was. Didn't have any problem parking at that time.
Nice of the clerk to make the water free! There are good people stll left in a few corners of the world, aren't there? :)
