Riding The Storm Out
I left Higginsville yesterday in early afternoon, hoping to out run the storms. Yesterday I found myself in the middle of all of the storms that went through Illinois. The first storm hit when we were going through St. Louis MO and there was nothing I could do but ride it out. Then the wind came and we pulled over at a rest area. When we pulled ourselves together, we started out again only to be met with a wonderful light show. Lightning on both sides of the RV, which stopped us once again. We parked in front a small rundown dinner, something straight out of the fifties. We went in and had the best cherry pie. The second storm struck after that. It was an adventure, one I hope to never to experience again.
Darling
We had to stop for fuel during the mayhem and the one we chose must have had a power outage. There were trucks lined up at the pumps, trucks squeezed in between the ones waiting at the pumps and trucks were lining the road leading into the station. I was the lone Rver stuck in the middle. A gentleman came up to me and said “Darling, if you could just back up…” He said “Darling” with a soft southern drawl, like chocolate melting in your mouth. I just wanted to reach out and put him in my pocket. Take him out every so often just to hear him say “darlin.” I couldn’t back up because of the car but the first opportunity I was out of there heading north.
Higginsville Missouri
Interstate RV Park was where stayed while visiting the kids. I met two very nice people there. One was a lady whose husband worked painting bridges. She said, “The higher he is the better he likes it.” They have traveled extensively because of his job. She had two Yorkies that were her babies. Her children, like mine, have all left home.
My neighbor at the park was a solo traveler. She hails from Colorado but her home is a camper on a pickup truck. Very basic but it suited her needs. The camper was very nice on the inside with a small kitchen, bed, chair, and bathroom. She stopped at the park because of mechanical problems with her truck so she went from having a house on a truck to having a house on stilts. When she first came in a man stopped by her place to inquire about her truck. He said, “Maybe your husband can fix it.” She snorted and said derisively “I don’t have a husband and don’t need a man in my life to fix my truck.” AMEN SISTER. She travels with two dogs both female and like me, enjoys her nomadic lifestyle.
Washington, The State
If all goes well, we will be heading for the State of Washington Friday. We will drop the RV off for repairs and travel by car to see my son, Rusty. I doubt seriously if we will have internet access and so you might not hear from me for a while. I will be back on line 1 June.
Back on the road today, later.
