We made it to Kansas City yesterday without any problems. Today we decided to take Surely to a dog park. She has never been to one and I thought she would enjoy it.
Surely was a country dog. No collar or leash, she just ran free, and no one behind her picking up her poo. She drank from streams, ate things that would disgust most humans, and came home when she felt like it. Then her world changed when we moved into the “Little House on Wheels.” For a geriatric puppy, this was a major change. She is now on a leash, her poo is picked up, and I won’t let her near a dumpster.
Then I pulled the rug out from underneath her again. I took her to a dog park. It was like the story “The City Mouse and the Country Mouse” but only with dogs. She has never seen that many dogs in one place ever and they were all playing in the water. At first, she tolerated it with quiet dignity and patience. Then she became aggressive. Surely never played, she never had a favorite toy, a ball, or a rope. Surely was born old and she looks at play as fighting and she joins in with all the bravado of three drunken sailors. She goes for the throat and wants blood. All of the dogs and puppies we saw today were playful. She finally just gave up and resigned herself to her fate. Even though all of the dogs were off their leashes I kept Surely’s on for their protection. She has the heart and soul of a tiger.
Tomorrow the old girl will stay home and rest. She needs it.
Slide show is of the dog park and all the wonderful furry characters we met. Of course, the singer is Freebo.
Yes Scott, my grand puppies. You need to get busy and give me a grand puppy.
