Richmond Missouri

On the way to Richmond Missouri, we passed through Lexington Missouri, a beautiful river town with beautiful antebellum homes. It is a town filled with history and would be a great place to explore. Since our time here is limited, we did a quick drive through and then headed to Richmond.

The mighty Missouri river definitely has flooded the area. I have seen it worse on the news but any amount of flooding is bad. We met a man who was video taping the flooded regions. He had just purchased some property, which is now underwater for duck hunting. I hope he never builds on it. He lives in the town of Hardin and it was saved when another levee broke. He said, “They were very lucky.” They say the waters had crested in Jefferson City so let us hope the worse it over.

I was excited to see Richmond Missouri. My ancestors were from there and buried there. The town reminds me of an ancient, elegant lady slowly decaying. The Christian Church that my family attended is now a Salvation Army store. The pipe organ has been removed, the stain glass replaced by simple plain glass, and the beautiful domed ceiling is showing signs of decay. At one time, it was beautiful.

The cemetery is located on a hill that is overlooking the town. Hannah was the first to find Christopher Trigg Garner and Christopher Trigg. We let the dogs have free run of the place while we explored the rest of the cemetery.

Enjoyed the pictures.
